Born in Iran in 1940. He attended the Fine Arts School at the Teheran University. He started as a screenwriter and director in 1970 with the short The Bread and Alley, and four years later he made his first feature, The Traveller. His films started getting international acclaim with Where Is the Friend’s Home? (1987). Since then, all of his films have been screened at Mostra, among them Close Up (1990); Through the Olive Trees (1994), winner of the Critics’ Choice Award at the 18th Mostra; Taste of Cherry (1997), which won the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival, and Ten (2002). In 2004, he had a full retrospective of his films screened in the 28th Mostra, including the release of his photobook. His latest feature films, Certified Copy (2010, 34th Mostra) and Like Someone in Love (2012, 36th Mostra), in addition to the short Take Me Home (2016, 40th Mostra) were also screened. In 2012, he won the Leon Cakoff Prize, granted by Mostra. Died in 2016 at the age of 76.

Born in 1971, he studied at the Faculty of Arts, Music and Performance at Bologna University, then joined Ermanno Olmi’s group Ipotesi Cinema. He next worked as an editorial coordinator for various television and radio stations for the Italian community abroad, before becoming an assistant director to Silvano Agosti and Nico Cirasola. In 1993, he directed Poco Più della Metà di Zero, his first short film, followed by Opinioni di un Pirla, in 1994. In collaboration with the director Giovanni Piperno, he made the documentaries Intervista a Mia Madre (1999) and Il Film di Mario (1999-2001), then founded the Apollo 11 group who ran a cinema of the same name which became a hub for Roman culture. In 2003 and 2005 he made the docu-music videos Gli Avion Travel in seduta di registrazione and L`alluvione del`43 di Pino.

Born in Beijing, China, in 1957. Political dissident and one of the most important contemporary artists, Ai Weiwei also acts as filmmaker, photographer and architect. Son of Ai Qing, one of the most successful poets in China, he grew up in exile in his own country. When he was young, Ai Weiwei went to the USA and entered Parsons School of Design in New York, but most of his learning came from experiences with local artists and intellectuals. Back to China, he produced some of his most important works, like the destruction of an ancient urn dated from the Hun dynasty and the widely known series of images called Study of Perspective. He directed documentaries such as Disturbing the Peace (2009), So Sorry (2012) and Ordos 100 (2012). In 2017, at the 41st Mostra, Ai Weiwei signed the concept art to the edition’s poster, presented the documentary Human Flow and was honored with the Humanity Award. At the 44th Mostra, he exhibits Coronation and Vivos.

Aida Marques Born in Niterói, in Rio de Janeiro, in 1954. She studied cinema and literature in Paris and returned to Brazil in 1979 to work with editing for Embrafilme until 1987. She was awarded prizes on eleven occasions at different festivals in Brazil and has edited over forty films, amongst these, a feature, Tensão no Rio (1982, as assistant), by Gustavo Dahl, a medium-length film, A Igreja da Libertação (1985), by Silvio Da-Rin, and short films such as Geléia Geral (1986) and Dama da Noite (1987), both by Sandra Werneck, and Memória do Sangue (1987), by Conceição Senna. She is professor of cinema and video at Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF), in Rio de Janeiro. Expedito - A Country Poet is her first film. Beto Novaes Born in São Carlos, São Paulo, in 1945. Professor of Economy at the UFRJ Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, José Roberto Novaes is a researcher and makes documentaries for video, on subjects related to the world of labor and for a reminder of the struggle of rural laborers. He directed two short films Sonhos de Criança and Rurais da CUT.

AIRTO ARREGI He was born in Onãti, Guipúzcoa, España, in 1977. In addition to getting a degree in Business Administration and Management, he also studied film at the Center for Performing Arts of Sarobe. He has worked as the co-screenwriter and co-director on the documentary Sahara Maraton, on full-length films such as Glup (co-director), Iraetarrak and Socios (screenwriter). He has also been the producer of the short films Sintonía and Compartiendo a Glenda, and the director and screenwriter of the short films Nora Hoa Bexente? (award-winner at San Sebastian) and El Bucle. He is also co-screenwriter and co-director on Christopher Tremendous (award to the best full-length film at Animacor). JOSE MARIA GOENAGA He was born in Ordizia, Guipúzcoa, Espanha. He studied Business Administration and Management in San Sebastián and Manchester, and took a course on filmmaking at the Center for Perfoming Arts of Sarobe. In 2001 he co-founded Moriarti Produkzioak. His short films Tercero B and Sintonía have received in all more than 120 prizes at national and international competitions, and he has been co-screenwriter and co-diretor on Supertramps, winning the Enfants Terribles award at the Gijón International Film Festival and nominee for the Goya award to the best animation feature film in 2004.

Thierry Ravalet é jornalista, trabalhou em emissoras de TV e rádio da França e foi redator publicitário. Realizou reportagens na Iugoslávia e na Alemanha.

Born in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1929. One of the most important names and an essential element of European modern cinema, Alain Tanner is a main character in the renovation of Swiss cinema that happened during the 1960’s. His movies are strongly related to the behavioral changes guaranteed by the events of 1968, which changed European society on an ideological, thematic, and political level. In 1969, he made Charles, Dead or Alive, winner of the Golden Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival; the feature puts Switzerland in the main international cinema circuits. He is also director of other features, such as The Middle of the World (1974); Jonah who Will Be 25 in the Year 2000 (1976), one of the most important films in Swiss cinema; Messidor (1978); Light Years Away (1981); In the White City (1982, 8th Mostra) and Jonah and Lila, Till Tomorrow (1999, 24th Mostra). The 41st Mostra, in addition to the exhibit of his most significant works, will give the Leon Cakoff Prize to Alain Tanner for his career.

Jennifer Jason Leigh born in 1962, in Hollywood (California). Actress, script writer, director, and producer, she became famous for her brilliant acting as Tralala in Noites Violentas no Brooklin (1989) by Ulrich Edel. Leigh has acted in over sixty films since her professional debut at the age of 10 (1972, The Waltons). At this time, she is part of the cast in The Road to Perdition, by Sam Mendes to be released next year. The Anniversary Party is her first film as director and script writer. Alan Cumming born in 1965 in Perthshire (Scotland). He began a career as actor in the miniseries for TV, Shadow on the Stone (1987). Also a script writer, producer, and composer, Cumming directed his first film in 1994, Butter, for TV. He also directed Burn Your Phone (1996) and this film, The Anniversary Party.

Born in the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco, he grew up in Mazatlán, Sinaloa. In 1987, he moved to the U.S. to study photography and cinema. In 1994, he traveled to Mexico City to work with the marketing department in the film distribution sector for BMG Ariola, and returned once more to the U.S. after three years. In 1997, he founded the Ides of March Filmworks producers where he has produced and directed commercials, documentaries and short films both in Mexico, in the U.S., and in several Latin American countries. In 2003, he founded Esfera Films Entertainment, a Mexican producer. He majored in Arts, with graduate studies in photography. He also studied film producing, directing, and script at several universities such as UCLA, Loyola Miramount University, and the Royal International Film Academy in Barcelona, Spain. During this time, he directed two class projects awarded prizes on the festival circuit: in 1992, a documentary Nadie es tan Malo y and, in 1993, one short film - Kung-Fu Fighter. In 1999, he directed a short film The Wedding, and, in 2000, a short film, Knowing. Morenita was his first feature.

Was born in Islington, North London, in 1944. Started out as a copywriter in advertising and later, in the 60’s and 70’s, went on to directing commercials. Also a novelist and cartoonist has published the books Bugsy Malone, Puddles in the Lane and The Sucker’s Kiss and the cartoons Hares in the Gate, Making Movies and Will Write and Direct for Food. In 1974, he directed The Evacuees for the BBC and one year later, he debuted as a feature film director with Bugsy Malone (1975). Later, he directed Birdy (1984), winner of the Grand Prix Du Jury at Cannes, and was nominated for the Oscar of Best Director for Midnight Express (1978) and Mississippi Burning (1988). His filmography also includes Fame (1979); Pink Floyd: The Wall (1982); The Commitments (1991), exhibited at the 15th Mostra; and The Life of David Gale (2003), screened at the 27th Mostra. He founded and chaired the new UK government body for film, the UK Film Council, and was knighted in 2002 for services to the British film industry. He is a member of the International Jury of 34th Mostra.

Alberto de Almeida Cavalcanti was born in Rio de Janeiro on February 6, 1897. He started his career as script writer, art director and director in Paris in the twenties, in the early days of cinema. In 1926, he directed a vanguard documentary, Nothing But Time, describing life for some of the workers in Paris during a single day. Cavalcanti moved to England in 1933 to work as a sound engineer and later as producer at the GPO Film Unit, under director John Grierson. With the outbreak of World War II, he transferred to Ealing Studios where he worked for Michael Balcon. There he directed films that were important to his career, such as Champagne Charlie (1944) and They Made me a Fugitive (1947). In the late forties, on invitation of Assis Chateaubriand, he returned to Brazil to be director at Vera Cruz film producers, newly instituted in São Bernardo do Campo. He made some of his best known films in Brazil, with his own producing company (not Vera Cruz) - Simon the One-Eyed (1952) and Woman of Truth (1954). Under pressure for his leftist political position, he again left Brazil in the late fifties and settled in Paris where he produced films for cinema and TV. The last film he directed was La Visite de la Vieille Dame (1971; for TV). He died in Paris on August 23, 1982.

Alberto Piccinini - Journalist and scriptwriter for TV. He wrote programs for MTV Italia and contributed with editorials for Il Manifesto, the daily newspaper for which he writes on a regular basis about football. He wrote books, Fratellini d`Italia, Ambra, brand:new, and Figu Mundial. He was co-author for the script for the comedy Tutti all`Attacco (2005), by Lorenzo Vignolo. Giovanni Giommi - Born in Milan, in 1965. He majored in architecture and later attended the Civic Cinema School of Milan, working also with video-art. In 1997, he began work with television channels Tele+ and MTV Itália, as producer and director. He wrote and directed the documentaries Sol y Sombra (1997), Nel Cuore delle Alghe e dei Coralli - I Cento Passi di Peppino Impastato (1999), a medium-length film Béisbol (2000), Nice! (2003), and Frames - Variazioni per Catena di Montaggio (2004). Massimo Coppola - Born in Salerno, in 1972. He wrote and directed La Regola del Contemporaneamente (2001) and Me Fella (2005). He wrote, directed and presented a series of documentaries Avere Ventanni, of 2005, on Italian youth in the Berlusconi era. He is also an actor as in Lavorare con Lentezza (2004), by Guido Chiesa.

Sokurov`s films were shown in Brazil since 1997, at the 21st Mostra, with Mother and Son. He had a retrospective of 33 of his films at 26th Mostra, when was also released the first book in Portuguese about his work, Aleksandr Sokúrov, by publishing house Cosac Naify. Among his most important films are Dolce (1999, 24th Mostra), Elegy of a Voyage (2001, 25th Mostra), The Russian Arc (2002, 26th Mostra), Father and Son (2003, 27th Mostra) Alexandra (2007, 32nd Mostra), in addition to the films that complete the Power Tetralogy: Moloch (1999, 23rd Mostra) about Hitler; Taurus, about Lenin (2001, 26th Mostra), and The Sun, about the Japanese emperor Hirohito (2005, 30th Mostra).

Regarded as one of the most important directors today, Alexsandr Sokúrov was born in 1951 in the city of Podorvikha (Siberia). His father was an officer in the Russian army, a veteran of World War II. The family was constantly on the move, and Sokúrov began his school days in Poland and continued in Turkestan. He majored in history in 1974 and later studied in the VGIK, the famous Institute of Filmography in Russia, where he obtained a diploma in 1979 - one year before that foreseen, owing to conflict with the institution and with the powerful Goskino, the state department of cinema. His work, even as a student, was unacceptable to Russian bureaucracy, and he was accused of formalism and of assuming "anti-Soviet views". His first feature, The Lonely Human Voice (1978) was refused as a graduating project by the VGIK. The support he met with from Andrei Tarkovski (1932-1986) at this time were important and decisive. Tarkovski was enthusiastic about his first feature. Influenced by the acknowledged film maker, young Sokúrov was employed by Lenfilm studios in 1980 which made his initial films possible - the majority censored by the Russian government. Only as from 1986, with the democratic reform from the glasnost, were the public permitted to view his films. During the nineties, Sokúrov`s films were shown at several festivals, with international awards: the Fipresci (International Federation of Film Critics) Award, the Tarkovsky Award, and the Russian State Award. Sokúrov\\\`s films were shown in Brazil as from 1997, at the 21st Mostra with the touching Mother and Son (1997). Moloch (1999) was included in the 23rd Mostra, dolce… (1999) in the 24th Mostra, and Elegy of a Voyage (2001) at the 25th Mostra. The Retrospectiva Alexsandr Sokúrov in this 26th Mostra includes 11 fiction features and 20 documentaries, amongst which the celebrated series of nine Elegys, small visual essays that have become the hallmark of the poetry in Sokúrov.

Alexei German was born in Leningrad, now Saint Petersburg, USSR, in 1938. Son of the famous Russian writer Yuri German, he is known for his controversial and critical films, mostly shot in black and white. He graduated at the Leningrad Theatre University in 1960 and worked as a stage director at the Gorky Bolshoi Drama Theatre before started studying film direction with Grigory Kozintsev at the Lenfilm studio, where he also worked as an assistant director. His debut feature, The Seventh Satellite (1967, co-directed with Grigory Aronov), was set in the decisive historical years of 1918 and 1919. His first solo-directed feature, Being Proven on the Roads, was shot in 1971, but only released in 1986. The film was banned from the Soviet Union and caused the director of Lenfilm Studio’s resignation. Based on a true incident, it questioned some wartime myths and it was considered antipatriotic for depicting the Red Army, as well as the treatment given to prisoners-of-war during the II World War. “The film is about Stalin`s methods of treating people. A work about morals and immorality”, tells German. Over the course of his career, many of his projects have suffered an official government’s opposition. After Being Proven on the Roads, he shot Twenty Warless Days (1976), followed by My Friend Ivan Lapshin (1986), based on his father’s book, Lapshin (1937). Awarded at the Locarno Film Festival and voted by Russian critics one of the ten best soviet films of all time, the film was filed for three years before its release. His fifth feature, Khurstalyov, My Car! (1997), tells about the traumatic war episode known as the "Affair of the Doctors": in the 1950’s, Stalin`s regime spread the idea that "doctors" of the Soviet Jewish elite were plotting the death of the dictator, using this story as a justification for anti-Semitic persecution. His son, Aleksei German Jr., followed his father’s career and is known by features such as Paper Soldier (2008), awarded at the Venice Film Festival. It’s an honor for the 35th Mostra to fully present German’s five features representing a 30-year-work, and also to exhibit Alexander Pozdnyakov’s documentary German: from the Other Side of the Camera (2008) on the thoughts and work of the great and restless filmmaker.

His filmography includes Dead Presidents (1995), American Pimp (2000), From Hell (2001), Justine (2004), Mercy (2005). BRETT RATNER An American filmmaker and music video director, he was born in 1969 in Miami, USA. He is best known for his films such as The Family Man (2000), Red Dragon (2002), the Rush Hour series (1998, 2001,2007), and X-Men: The Last Stand (2006). FATIH AKIN He was born in Hamburg, Germany, in 1973 as son to Turkish parents. He directed his first full-length feature film Short Sharp Shock in 1998. It was followed by In July (2000), Solino (2002), the short The Evil Old Songs (2004, 28th Mostra) and Head On (2004, 28th Mostra), Golden Bear at the Berlin Festival. He also made the music documentary Crossing the Bridge - The Sound of Istambul (2005, 29th Mostra) and the fiction The Edge of Heaven (2007, 31st Mostra), awarded best screenplay at Cannes Festival. In 33rd Mostra, he also presents the feature film Soul Kitchen. JIANG WEN Born in Tangshan, Hebei province, China, he shifted to Beijing at the age of 6. He wrote and directed his first film in 1994, In the Heat of the Sun. Jiang`s second feature, Devils on the Doorstep, set during the Japanese occupation of China in the early 1940s, won him the Grand Prix in the 2000 Cannes Film Festival. JOSHUA JACOB MARSTON Born in 1968 in Los Angeles, USA. He graduated from Beverly Hills High School. Marston worked in Paris as an intern for Life, then for ABC News during the Gulf War. He returned to the United States and earned a master`s degree in Political science from University of Chicago in 1994 before earning a Master of Fine Arts in film at New York University. He debuted in the direction of feature films with Maria Full of Grace (2004), Great Prize of the Jury at 28th Mostra. MIRA NAIR She was born in 1957 in Orissa, India. She was educated at Delhi University. She is an Indian film director and producer based in New York. Her debut feature film, Salaam Bombay! (1988) won the Golden Camera award at the Cannes Film Festival. Her filmography includes Mississipi Masala (1991, Special Prize at 15th Mostra); Monsoon Wedding (2002), Golden Lion at the Venice Festival; Vanity Fair (2004) and The Namesake (2007). NATALIE PORTMAN An Israeli-American actress, she was born in Jerusalem in 1981. She debuted in Luc Besson’s The Professional (1994). Among others, she acted in the prequel trilogy Star Wars (1999-2005); Mike Nichol’s Closer (2005), for which she received a Golden Globe Award as Best Supporting Actress; Amos Gitai’s Free Zone (2005, 29th Mostra) and Milos Forman’s Goya’s Ghosts (2006, 31st Mostra). She completed a bachelor’s degree in psychology at Harvard College. In 2008, she was member of the Cannes Film Festival Jury. Portman’s directorial debut, Eve (2008), opened the Venice Film Festival’s shorts competition. RANDALL BALSMEYER Director, animation and visual effects supervisor.His filmography includes Shaft (2000) e Pride and Glory (2008), both he is animation and visual effects supervisor. SHEKHAR KAPUR Born in Lahore, Pakistan, in 1945. He studied business before immigrating to Great Britain. In Bombay, he embarked on a career as a print model and performer. Abandoning acting, he moved to the director`s chair with the Innocent (1983). After that, he directed Bandit Queen (1994), Elizabeth (1998), The Four Feathers (2002) and Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007). SHUNJI IWAI Born in 1963, in Sendai, Japan. Filmmaker, video artist, writer and documentarian. He attended Yokohama National University, graduating in 1987. He directed TV dramas and music videos in Japan. In 1995, he went on to start his career in feature films, starting with Love Letter. Outstanding among his feature are Picnic (1996), All About Lily Chou-Chou (2001), Hana & Alice (2004) e The Kon Ichikawa Story (2006). YVAN ATTAL Born in Tel-Aviv, Israel to French-Algerian Jewish parents, in 1965, he grew up in the Paris suburbs. His acting debut was in Un monde sans pitié (1989). His first feature film as director was My wife is an actress (2001). He also acted in The Patriots (1994, by Éric Rochant, 18th Mostra) and Bon Voyage (2003, by Jean-Paul Rappeneau, 28th Mostra).

Trained in film production in Madrid and Paris, Almudena worked as a television director in Spain. In 2000 she went to the U.S. as an international scholar to work on her doctoral dissertation at UCLA Film School. She served on the jury of film festivals like Silverdocs and San Diego and has received the National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) ESTELA Award. Her documentary on Tijuana as a border town Welcome, A Docu-Journey of Impressions received the Sterling Award for Best Short Documentary at Silverdocs. Five years in the making, Made in L.A. is her first feature documentary and has received, amongst others, the Emmy Award, the Henry Hampton Award for Excellence, and the Special Mention of the Jury at the Valladolid International Film Festival.

Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1947. Established in São Paulo, he was part of the first film studies graduating class at ECA-USP. During the 1970’s, he was one of the founders and first president of the Brazilian Documentarian Association. He directed a large number of short films from the 1960’s to the 1990’s, but gained notoriety for his work as a cinematographer. He filmed two of the most important recent Brazilian docs, Paulo Sacramento’s O Prisioneiro da Grade de Ferro (2003) and Andrea Tonacci’s Serras da Desordem (2006, 30th Mostra). He worked as a cinematographer in more than 30 films, and his filmography includes João Batista de Andrade’s O Homem que Virou Suco (1980); Paulo Cesar Saraceni’s Ao Sul do Meu Corpo (1982); one of the segments of Mostra’s original production Welcome to São Paulo (2004) and Paulo Sacramento’s Riverrun (2013, 37ª Mostra). He died in São Paulo in 2013.

Journalist, costume designer, scenic designer, actor and director of film and theater. In the ’60s and ’70s, he put on plays by Nelson Rodrigues, Bertolt Brecht, Dia Gomes and Jean Genet, among others. He began his film career as an assistant director to Glauber Rocha with his film The Turning Wind (1961). In 1962, he directed Moleques de Rua, his first short film. He designed the costumes and the set on Walter Lima Jr.’s Boy of the Plantation (1965) and acted in Nelson Pereira dos Santos’ Tent of Miracles (1977), Antônio Calmon’s Eu Matei Lúcio Flávio (1979) and Terror e Êxtase (1980), Miguel Faria Jr.’s República dos Assassinos (1979), and Marcos Farias’ Bububu no Bobobó (1980). Caveira My Friend (1970), his first feature-length film, is one of the examples of Brazilian underground cinema.

Jorge Guimarães Born in 1957, in Rio de Janeiro. Producer and director of cinema and television, he has been involved in surf and in martial arts since his teens in the Rio de Janeiro south side. In 1979, he went to California, where he lived for thirteen years, studying English and working with the surf industry. He came back to Brazil in 1993, and began to produce and direct a weekly TV program on martial arts. In 2002/3, he was one of the creators of the Tow in World Cup TV program. The documentary Tow in Surfing is the result of all of these years of experience in and out of water. Rosaldo Cavalcanti Born in Recife, Pernambuco, in 1963. He graduated in cinema and is producer and director for cinema and television. To dive, fish, and swim were always an important part of his childhood. As a teenager, he lived in Rio de Janeiro, when surfing became an essential part of his life. He began to work as a journalist in 1982, publishing articles on surf in several national and international magazines. In 2002/2003, he was one of the creators and producers of Tow in World Cup TV program. The result of this experience is the documentary Tow in Surfing.

Today, Momen is working in the Palestinian Television as a freelancer and in the Public Relation department in two Palestinians organizations; The Christian National Assembly in Jerusalem and in The African Community Association in Jerusalem. LIVIU BABICH Graduated from Minshar school for Art and Cinema, where he is also a producer and a tutor. Liviu has a vast experience in producing and editing short films which participated in different festivals. NIHAD SABRI MARKESTO Graduated from Bir Zeit University in the department of Television and Radio. Nihad required his television experience while working in Pal Media as an editor and a director. He also directed a few documentary films for different NGO`s and was a youth instructor for filming in AlQuds Center in the Old City. Nihad established his own production company under the name Tia Production. AMBER FARES She studied film at the Gulf Island Film and Television School in Canada. She has been involved with several youth programs that use film as a conflict resolution tool. She is currently based in Ramallah, where she consults with non-governmental organizations on how to incorporate film into their advocacy strategies. Avi and Amber have launched an independent production company, Third Culture Media, to explore contemporary social issues and to work with NGOs to promote public awareness and engagement through film. This is their first film together. AVI GOLDSTEIN He studied photography at Princeton University and has Understudied with several accomplished documentary filmmakers. In 2009, he completes a Masters in Community Leadership & Philanthropy studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and is active with a variety of art and social change initiatives. RADWAN DUHA He is about to finish his studies in Communication and Film department in AlQuds University. Over the course of his studies, he participated in various film productions, including the short film Nur & Nar, which was a part of Jerusalem Moments 2008 and in the Warsaw film festival for Israeli and Palestinian cinema 2009. Radwan also works in the Palestinian television in Ramallah. YASMINE NOVAK She graduated her film studies in Tel Aviv University. Her short film Zohar was screened in a premier in the Locarno International Film Festival 2007. She also edited the Israeli version of The Heart of Jenin (directed by Lior Geler and Marcus Vetter, 2008). DANIEL GAL He is been working as a cinematographer for more than seven years. He filmed Bnei Sahnin (directed by Suha Aref, 2005); To see if I`m smiling (directed by Tamar Yarom, 2007), which won Amsterdam and Haifa Film Festivals; and The Promised Land (France 2 channel, 2008).

Born in Martinez, in the provice of Buenos Aires, in 1975. She is a graduate of the ORT Institute Audivisual Production School, and also of the Institute National de l’audiovisuel in Paris. Since 1997 she has worked in several areas of the film industry. She was a casting director, an assistant director, a production manager and an editing assistant. She worked with Daniel Burman, Martín Rejtman, Marco Bechis, Nercedes García Guevara and Santiago García. In 1997 she wrote and directed the award-winning documentary short film Modelo Para Amar. In 2002 she directed the television show Maximo. Her first feature film A Year Without Love was awarded with the Teddy Award at the Berlinale in 2005 and with the FIPRESCI award at the Mar del Plata International Film Festival. Her second feature Encarnación premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and in Official Competition in San Sebastian in 2007.

Anytime Soon is her first feature film as director and screenwriter. Daniel Andrade - Born in Ecuador on 1973. Cinematographer graduated from the American Film Institute, at Los Angeles, USA. He has directed the photography for several short and feature films both in Ecuador and USA, such as Cuando Me Toque a Mí, directed by Victor Arregui, and Nobody Needs to Know, by Aza Jacobs. Daniel has photographed and directed the short films Until Death do us Part and Trench. Anytime Soon is his first feature film as a director.

Leondre Campos - Nasceu em 1978, no Rio de Janeiro. Formou-se em Direito pela UFRJ em 1999 e é apaixonado por cinema, fotografia e principalmente lomografia. Atuou como advogado por quase 10 anos quando, em 2005, decidiu seguir sua real vocação. Ainda que sem a devida formação acadêmica na área, viajou para a Indonésia a fim de realizar seu primeiro filme documentário, Indo.doc, e por lá ficou por quatro meses de árduos trabalhos. A partir daí entrou de cabeça no mundo da cinematografia, freqüentando inúmeros cursos na Academia Internacional de Cinema no Rio de Janeiro. André Pires - He was born in 1976 and majored in Journalism and Advertising at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica in Rio de Janeiro. He has worked in press and publicity agencies. He is a partner in the Lanho clothing brand name. He produced the video to advertise the brand name and, with the experience, began to devote himself to other projects in the field together with Leondre Campos, his partner. Indo.doc is his first feature.

Andrea Segre As a director, he has studied and reported on migration to Europe and contradictions of the developed world now for several years. Dagmawi Yimer He graduated from a British school in Adis Ababa, attended some years of Law School, but for political reasons decided to emigrate. He reached Lampedusa by way of Lybia in July 2006, where he was granted humanitarian protection. Since 2007, he has collaborated with the Ainitas Italian school, as a volunteer and video-maker. He made one of the episodes of Il Deserto e il Maré and some short films as a class assignment. The Salina Doc Fest, a festival of narrative documentary in one of the seven islands of the Sicilian archipelago of Eolias, has now entered into partnership with Mostra Internacional de Cinema - The International Film Festival, in São Paulo, for a unique cinematographic interchange. Mostra will indicate films for Salina - in this case, the best Italian film of the second edition of the SalinaDocFest 2008, 22 through 28 September, awarded the Premio Brasile, and the film will, in addition, be shown within the program for the 32nd Mostra. The film chosen by a Brazilian jury (Renata de Almeida, Beth Formaggini, and Leon Cakoff) was Like a Man on the Earth, by Andrea Segre and Dagmawi Yimer. The prize from Mostra was justified because the film “focused on a social theme concerning immigration, solidarity, exile, political persecution, and resistance. And, especially, because this is a film that affects Italy in two ways - by the controversy of its policy against immigrants, forgetting that Italian culture was spread by immigration all over the world; and because the film deals with the direct consequences of the countries’ not too distant colonial policy in Africa, in this case, in Ethiopia.” Salina and São Paulo are starting on a cinematographic partnership that is a great stimulus to us. The history of São Paulo and its cultural background has passed through the voluntarism of Italian immigrants and the enchantment afforded by Italian cinema itself over the course of golden decades. Salina is the setting and inspiration to many chapters of this our story in common as film lovers. Films such as Stromboli (Roberto Rossellini), L’Aventura (Michelangelo Antonioni), and The Postman (Michael Radford) were all of them filmed there, among many others. Salina is a new stage, also, for Brazilian cinema that has so enchanted the world since it came of age with visions that are more pluralistic and diversified of Brazil’s giant cultural universe. With this partnership, São Paulo and Salina will exchange various experiences with the firm objective of benefiting mutual cinematographic knowledge. He directed and photographed short films until 1970 when she made a classic Bang Bang, a landmark, cited as one of the thirty best Brazilian features of all times. He was one of the first to use portable video equipment in Brazil and, between 1977 and 1984, he made a number of documentaries on Indian cultures in the Americas. He produces, directs, and photographs documentaries, films, and institutional pieces. "A Infância de Ivan", de 1962, ganha Leão de Ouro no Festival de Veneza. "Andrei Roublev", de 1966 fica vários anos inédito sem razão compreensível. "Solaris", de 1972, leva o Prêmio Especial do Júri de Cannes e cria o mito de ser a versão oriental ao "2001" de Kubrich. "O Espelho", de 1974, provoca violentas críticas em seu país e só ganha fronteira em 1978. "Stalker", de 1979, tem problemas de produção e marca o seu derradeiro filme russo. Roda "Nostalgia" em 1983 na Itália e leva em Cannes 84 o Grande Prêmio de Criação. No mesmo ano decide viver no Ocidente diante da negativa de ter seu passaporte renovado. "O Sacrifício" ganhou em Cannes 86 outra vez o Prêmio Especial do Júri. Morreu no exílio, em 1986, na França.

He studied at Kraków Academy of Fine Arts, and in the mid-1950’s, after the World War II, led the Polish School movement to create a modern film industry in his country. Features such as A Generation (1954), Canal (1956) and Ashes and Diamonds (1958), about the Home Army resistance; Man of Marble (1976) and Man of Iron (1981), which chronicles the tensions between the working class and the government; and Walesa. Man of Hope. (2013), about the political rise of Solidarity leader, are essential to understand Poland’s history in recent years. Winner of a Palme d’Or, Wajda was also honored by the Academy with a lifetime achievement award. At its 40th edition Mostra organizes a retrospective of his films. He died in October this year.

They were executive scriptwriters and co-producers of the TV Seinfeld series in which the memorable episodes "The Junior Mint", "The Jimmy", and "The Fatigues" were awarded a Writers Guild Award, in 1998. Robin is co-scriptwriter for Bee Movie (2007), a cartoon with dubbing and co-production of Jerry Seinfeld. With Kavet, he co-authored Saving Face, a guide to social etiquette, and also co-directed a telefilm, The Mikes (2006). They were both nominated for four Emmy prizes, and won two People´s Choice Awards. Live Free or Die is their first feature, and was awarded the New American Cinema Prize at the 2006 Seattle Film Festival.

Janis Kalejs - He was born in 1965, in Riga (Latvia). Between the years 1987 and 1990 he was a student at the Latvian State Conservatory, Department of Theatre and Art. Between 1992 and 1997, he studied at Riga Motion Picture Studio (Film Studies). Kalejs made the feature Matin dans une Foret de Pins.

Teacher in the Communication and Art Department of the University of Aveiro, he teaches cinema and animation subjects. He directed the production of a large number of works produced by the Cine-Clube. He is the author of the book Cinema without Actors. His filmography includes Sócios (1993), Eustákio contra Tarzan (1988) and Gay (1982/3). CARLOS SILVA He was born in 1974, in Portugal. He has several studies in the audiovisual area and founded the Cine Club of Angeja. He works at the Cine-Clube of Avanca Animation Studios and he is responsible for the composition and editing of several fiction, documentary and advertisement films. His filmography includes Capuchinho Vermelho (1993), Os Moinhos do Fontão (1998), Albert Einstein Imortal (2005) and Loldini (2008). VÍTOR LOPES He was born in 1963 in Estarreja, Portugal. He studied Audiovisual Communication Technologies. Director of several animation shorts films. He works at Cine-Clube of Avanca Animation Studios, with a large experience in animation TV series (Alfredo, Zé and the Penguin, Let`s go Singing, Tortoise Walk Stories) as animator and director. Pedro Cezar Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1966, Cezar is a journalist, writer and has two poetry books published. He is the author of the film Trocando as Bordas, which mixes surf and poetry. Ricardo Bocão Ricardo Bocão has worked with TV production and content for 21 years. He debuted as a TV presenter in the popular program Realce in 1983. He was a professional surfer and the first Brazilian to be invited three consecutive years for the Quicksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau, a big wave championship in Hawaii. Antonio Ricardo Antonio Ricardo is a surfer, TV presenter, director and producer and a documentary maker of films for the youth public. At 17, he became editor for the surf magazine Realce, which was turned into a TV program in 1983 and became the first adventure sports program on Brazilian TV. Since then, he has produced over 4,000 new TV programs, including the documentary The History of Surf in Brazil. Today, Antonio Ricardo produces and presents four programs for the SporTV channel: Extra, WQS, Final Heat, and Rip.

Guilherme Fiúza He was born in 1968, in Belo Horizonte. He was assistant director for Helvécio Ratton, Tizuka Yamasaki, Nelson Pereira dos Santos and Sérgio Machado. In 2006, he was executive producer for the film Depois Daquele Baile, by Roberto Bomtempo and Batismo de Sangue, by Ratton. He made a short film, Fui!!! Lucas Gontijo He was born in 1974, in Rio de Janeiro. He is director for publicity films in partnership with Thales Bahia. Born in 1917 in Stockholm, Sweden, and died in 2001. Filmmaker, he was also the ultimate auteur, writing, editing, photographing and directing in every film he did. He went to Berlin to study art and photography in the 1930s, and when back in Sweden begun doing short documentaries about nature and animals. In 1947, he turned his camera on the city, Stockholm to be exact, and made Rhythm of a City, the first Swedish film ever to win an Oscar. After that, he made The Great Adventure (1953), his first feature film, prized in Cannes and Berlin. Sucksdorff also lived in Brazil and taught Film in Rio de Janeiro, where he became a political activist and fought to protect the rainforest and for the rights of children. He did only three films after he moved to Brazil, one of which is My Home Is Copacabana (1965).

Apichatpong Weerasethakul - He was born in Bangkok, Thailand, 1970. He studied Cinema at the Chicago Institute of Art and has, since then, directed films and videos. His first feature, a documentary, Dokfa Nai Meuman (2000), was included in several festivals and was acclaimed by the critics. Tropical Malady earned the young filmmaker the Prize from the Jury at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival and also the Prize from the Critics at the 28th Mostra. His movie Syndromes and a Century has been in 30th Mostra. Vicente Ferraz - Born in Rio de Janeiro, in 1965. He studied at the International School for Film and TV in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba. He directed several short films and documentaries in Brazil, in Cuba, in Costa Rica, and in Nicaragua. He is also a script writer, photographer, and television director. Soy Cuba – the Siberian Mammoth, is his first feature, awarded the prize for best documentary at the Guadalajara Festival 2005. It has been in 29th Mostra. Ayisha Abraham - She has studied Painting in Indian and in the United States. Between 1998 and 2003, teaching History of Art, Draw, Panting and Art Conceptual in Srishti School of Art Design, Technology, Yelahanka, Bangalore, where since 2003 is an attendant for final arts. She made the experimental movies The Lady with a Hat (1995), Alight at East Station (1997) Amnesia (2001) e Straight 8 (2005), besides have made individuals, collectives and residences expositions. Wang Bing - Born in China, in 1967. He graduated from the Film Academy in Peking. He directed TV series such as Campus Affairs and documentaries such as Common People’s Homestead. In 1999, he made his first feature, Distortion. His movie Tie XI Qu – West of the Tracks has been in 27th Mostra. Pedro Costa - He was born in 1959, in Lisbon. He majored in History from the School of Languages, Editing and Achievement at the Advanced School for Cinema at the Lisbon Conservatory. He has made short-films: É Tudo Invenção Nossa (1984) and Cartas a Julia (1987). His first feature, O Sangue (1989), was shown at the 15th Mostra. He was also part of the 18th Mostra with Casa de Lava (1995) and of the 22nd Mostra with Ossos (1997). In 2000, he has made No Quarto da Vanda, awarded three special mentions at the Locarno Film Festival. He was awarded the France Culture Prize as Foreign Filmmaker of the Year at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival. His movie Colossal Youth has been in 30th Mostra. Chantal Akerman - She was born in 1950, has worked in Brussels Film Academy. Her first short-film is Saute Ma Ville, which produced in 1968, got a big success of critic and public in her country. In EUA, Chantal was addicted to underground movie and made several works in this issue. She’s known in Europe as one of the most important experimental directors. Her movie Portrait of a Young Girl from Brussels has been in 19th Mostra.
