Zabou Breitman
Born in France in 1959. She began her film career acting in the 80s. In 2001, Zabou moved into directing with the feature film Beautiful Memories.

Was born in Arbil, Kurdistan, Iraq, in 1967. In 1975, he sought asylum in Iran along with his family as a result of the war in Kurdistan. He studied Scriptwriting and Filmmaking in Sweden and Russia. In 2005, he returned to Iraq after a 30 years hiatus. Has directed the short length documentaries Sharabot (1999), Night Flight (2002) and Eternal Him (2007), and the TV documentary 1991 Karkuk (2006).

Born in Tbilisi, Georgia. He worked for the Georgian state TV for several years and graduated from the HFF Konrad Wolf film school in Potsdam, Germany with a degree in directing. Born in Bagé, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. He studied audiovisual production and visual arts. Brito works as a screenwriter and director. In 2006, directed Um Filme Chamado Sfincter, screened on TV. He is also the director of short movies such as Um Breve Assalto (2009), Aos Pés (2010) and O Sabiá (2010), in addition to the features O Guri (2011) and Glauco of Brazil (2015, 39th Mostra).

Was the assistant director of Carlos Diegues in Subway to the Stars (1988) and directed the documentaries Bois em Farra (1996) and Festa do Divino, Tradição de Fé (1998). Directed the fiction feature Procuradas, co-directed with Norbeto Depizzolatti.

Nascido em Nis, na Sérvia, em 1942, Zilnik se formou em Direito antes de se dedicar ao cinema, fazendo filmes amadores. Mais tarde trabalhou como assistente de direção de Dusan Makavejev. Ganhou o Urso de Ouro em Berlim por seu filme Rani Radovi, em 1968, que foi banido da Iugoslávia. Dirigiu filmes na Alemanha Oriental de 1973 a 1976. Fundou sua própria companhia de produção em Budapeste, em 1991, quando realizou diversos filmes anti-bélicos.

A Kurdish documentary filmmaker, he graduated in Communication from the Anadolu University in 2002. He works as the coordinator of the Department of Cinema in Diyarbakir Metropolitan Municipality. He directed the short films Çek Çek (2002), There Isn’t (2005), Old Man (2007) and Girls of Dersim (2007). Voice of My Father is his first feature film.

Born in Luanda in 1955, he worked for Angolan television between 1974 and 1980, directing news broadcasts. He eventually began working as a documentary filmmaker with Mopiopio (1991) and Dissidence (1998). His first feature film The Hero (2005) won the Jury Prize at Sundance. The Great Kilapy is his second feature.

He went to Beijing Film Academy for advanced studies, and took charge of many films as playwright or planning director. He graduated from the Director’s Department of the Central Theatre Academy. In 1997, he directed his first feature, Spicy Love Soup. Then came the internationally acclaimed and awarded Shower (1999), Quitting (2001), and Sunflower (2004). Getting Home won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the 2007 Berlin International Film Festival.

Was born in Xian, China, in 1950, and was in elementary school during the Cultural Revolution of 1966. Forced to abandon his studies, he worked in the fields and at weaving factory. His interest led him to teach himself photography. He went to the Beijing Academy of Film. Internationally, he became the most well-known name of the so-called Fifth Generation of Chinese filmmaking. His debut as a director was in 1988 with Red Sorghum, shown at the 12th Mostra. He then made, among others, Raise the Red Lantern (1991), To Live (1994), Keep Cool (1997, 21st Mostra), Not One Less (1998, 23rd Mostra), The Road Home (1999, 24th Mostra), Happy Times Motel (2000, 26th Mostra), Hero (2002, 28th Mostra), House of Flying Daggers (2004) and The Curse of the Golden Flower (2006, 31st Mostra). He also directed the opening and ending ceremonies of the 2008 Olympic Games, in Beijing.

Nasceu em Nanjing, em 1963 e se formou em cinema pela Academia de Pequim, em 1989. É um dos mais combativos cineastas independentes da China continental. Seu primeiro longa, Mama, de 1990, tratava de um tema tabu: a mãe solteira. O trabalho seguinte, Os Bastardos de Pequim, de 1992, participou da 18ª Mostra. Desde então a Mostra vem acompanhando fielmente sua carreira, tendo exibido Filhos (1995), O Outro Lado da Cidade Proibida (1996) e 17 Anos, respectivamente na 20ª, 21ª e na 23ª Mostra.

He was born in 1975 in the Shandong province (China). Between the years 1994 and 1998 he studied Oil Painting at the Shandong Fine Arts College. Between 1999 and 2002 he majored in Film Direction at the Beijing Film Academy. During 2003 and 2004 he worked at China Central Television as a director and during 2004 and 2006 as an independent director, involved in theatre, advertising and documentaries. His main works were the direction of the short Swamp Lake (2002), actor and theatre production of Interrogation (2003) and direction of the documentary film Steel Factory (2004).

Born in the Hebei Province, China, in 1990. At age 18, he went to Beijing and started working as a security guard and also a martial arts stuntman in film and TV series production. Despite the lack of a professional background, Zhang has become an independent filmmaker. No One In The North is his first feature film.

She was born on 30th October 1968 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. In 1991 she graduated in Journalism at the Kazakh State University. Since 1993 she works in Advertising as a director and producer. In 1996 she executive-produced the feature film Last Holiday (Golden Prize at Tokyo International Film Festival, and Grand Prix at the Rotterdam IFF), and in 2001 the feature film Zhilama (Special Prize at Kinoshock IFF, Russia). With Karoy, she debuted on feature film as a director and scriptwriter.

Born in the Guangxi province, South of China. She studied at the screenwriting department of the Beijing Film Academy while working at the Guangxi Movies Studios. She directed Chinese TV-movies before moving to France to make documentary shorts. The Rice Paddy, which was filmed in her homeland, is her first fiction film.

Nasceu em 1963 e viveu no Líbano até 1983, quando Beirute estava em plena guerra civil. Estudou cinema em San Diego, nos Estados Unidos, e na UCLA, onde realizou alguns curtas em Super-8 e 16mm. Cameraman de formação, ele se divide entre a França e os Estados Unidos. Trabalhou como assistente de câmera e câmera de segunda unidade de diversos filmes de Quentin Tarantino, incluindo Cães de Aluguel (seleção da 16ª Mostra), Pulp Fiction - Tempos de Violência e Jackie Brown. Inspirado em sua própria vida. Beirute-Oeste é seu primeiro filme.

Born in 1989 in Damascus. With the beginning of the Syrian Revolution in March 2011, he has become one of the most important photographers in his hometown, which is the suburb of Douma and is known to be one of the centers of the uprising. He directed the short documentary Oh Douma (2012).

Born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1960. He was an actor, film and theatre director and writer. Kamondi made his directorial debut with the short movie Kiki and the Males (1985). His first fiction feature film was Paths of Death and Angels (1991). He is also the director of other features, such as The Alchemist and the Virgin (1999) and Dolina (2007). Died in 2016 at the age of 55.

Born in 1988, she is a German director, who studied at German Film and Television Academy Berlin and Columbia University. Zora worked at the Roy Andersson films A Pigeon Sat on a Branch (2014, 38th Mostra) and About Endlessness (2019) as casting director. She made the short films Safe Space (2014) and What Happens in Your Brain if You See a German Word Like...? (2015). Second Thoughts is her first feature film.

Was born in Harbin, China, in 1971. He studied painting when he was a child, graduated in fashion design and had his own clothing brand for 10 years. In 2005, he gave up his career to study cinema at the Beijing Film Academy. He has directed the feature film A North Chinese Girl (2008). Sauna on Moon, his second feature, was exhibited during the Critics Week at the Cannes Film Festival.

Nasceu em 1936 em Nagybecskerek, Hungria. Diploma-se em cinema em 1961 e torna-se membro fundador do Studio Béla Baláz onde roda vários curtas. Foi ainda assistente de direção em vários filmes de Miklós Jancsó. "Recidivistas" deu a Lili Monori o Prêmio de Melhor Atriz no Festival de Cannes em 1984.
